BloombergNEF (BNEF) is a strategic research provider covering global commodity markets and the disruptive technologies driving the transition to a low-carbon economy. We help our clients gain a clear perspective on the trends in technology, finance, policy and economics that are driving transformation across the energy value chain. Our expert coverage assesses pathways for the power, transport, industry, buildings and agriculture sectors to adapt to the energy transition. We help commodity trading, corporate strategy, finance and policy professionals navigate change and generate opportunities. BNEF has 300 staff based in 20 offices across the globe.

To succeed at BNEF we need people who can work in an independent manner and show initiative to develop their own viewpoints, yet be collaborative with colleagues. We don't rely on the status quo; we look for innovative yet pragmatic thinking that turns big ideas into real insights and impact. Working at BNEF sometimes feels chaotic; we need teams that are both dynamic and structured to generate the unique perspectives our clients really value. Our teams are diverse, creative, focused, and fun!

We are seeking a talented, highly motivated individual to join our Latin America research team as a Team Leader based in Sao Paulo.

You'll lead a group that produces primary research and analysis on the transition to a low-carbon economy in Latin America. We’re looking for someone who naturally forms original opinions, and who has an exceptional ability to communicate these to your audience. Teamwork is important to you, and you understand how healthy debates inform solid conclusions. We want someone who has a keen desire to help those around them develop. You will also be supporting client requests and supporting business development through client interactions in English, Spanish and/or Portuguese.

We'll trust you to:

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of talented analysts while maintaining esprit de corps among the group.
  • Oversee the team’s output and research pipeline including market outlooks, analyst reactions and bespoke reports on key questions that require a cross-sectoral lens and deep regional expertise.
  • Play a critical role in determining BNEF’s overall business strategy and research agenda for Latin America by both listening to and giving input to management and the commercial team.
  • Deliver outstanding analysis on how the latest developments in policy, technology and finance are changing the long-term outlook for the energy mix in Latin America.
  • Be responsible for the Latin America contributions to global BNEF reports and creating spin-off reports specific to the region. This includes but is not limited to contributions to the New Energy Outlook, Electric Vehicle Outlook, Transition Metals Outlook, Climatescope and Energy Transition Investment Trends reports.
  • Write insightful, important research that informs BNEF clients worldwide while affirming the BNEF brand both within and beyond the industry.
  • Edit all BNEF research produced by the Latin America Regional Team and ensure it is of excellent quality.
  • Be a key voice on the industry for current clients, potential clients, the media, public-policy leaders, and others.
  • Present BNEF research in English, Spanish and Portuguese in public settings, such as conferences and webinars regularly, and clearly communicate it to clients and prospects.
  • Answer client requests and support business development through client interactions.
  • Collaborate with a high degree of integrity with colleagues and clients from different cultures and countries.
  •   You'll need to have:
  • A broad and holistic understanding of the energy industry, with a Latin America focus. This includes a knowledge of decarbonization pathways across power, transport and industry and their interplay with commodity markets.
  • A deep understanding of the energy industry, particularly the renewables, power and gas sectors.
  • Fluent, professional English, Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills to support research and client queries and to present BNEF research in public settings.
  • A demonstrated ability to “connect-the-dots” between diverse research areas, including policy, economics, finance, markets and technology. This includes getting up to speed and integrating new ideas and topics into our thinking quickly and pragmatically.
  • Excellent quantitative skills, and comfort working with large datasets and models in excel, python and SQL.
  • Substantial experience articulating ideas in writing and verbally to a range of audiences, including industry experts and key policy makers.
  • Excellent client facing skills and enthusiasm to represent the product both internally and externally.
  • The time management skills and confidence to juggle working on multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to think critically and develop thoughtful opinions by cutting through the noise of data, extracting key patterns, applying skepticism to the claims of industry participants and asking insightful questions.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Humanities or other relevant subjects.
  •   We'd love to see:
  • Prior experience in mentorship, management of a team or development of others.
  • A Masters degree.
  • Creative and flexible approach to people and project management.
