Description & Requirements

About the Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC)

The Climate Data Steering Committee was established in June 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Special Envoy Michael Bloomberg to improve access to global climate transition data. The CDSC – which brings together leaders from a diverse set of jurisdictions and relevant international organisations - aims to accelerate and help build a broadly accessible foundation of high-quality climate data critical to supporting the allocation of capital to the net-zero transition.

The CDSC has set out a blueprint for the development of a Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU) as a global, centralized, open repository for private sector climate transition-related data, that is freely available to all stakeholders helping to accelerate efforts to direct capital to low- or zero-carbon investments. The CDSC oversees the development of the NZDPU and more generally works to maximize the standardisation and availability of the core corporate-level climate data

About the role
We are looking for a self-starting Secretariat Associate with some relevant experience and a strong desire to learn about how to deliver a secretariat function to support an international policy committee. In this exciting role, you would work to support the Secretariat Lead to support the governance, processes and policy initiatives of the CDSC, in close collaboration with the team delivering the NZDPU. The role requires someone who has some understanding of climate data or disclosure issues, or of wider relevant policy, and who is willing to dig in and upskill on these important topics. It requires excellent organisational and communication skills.

We'll trust you to:
  • Support the management of governance, membership and wider processes for the CDSC effectively, ensuring that we work strategically and systematically to deliver on a forward strategy to improve climate transition data disclosures not least by ensuring the success of the NZDPU;
  • Support the running of the annual schedule of CDSC Principals and Delegates meetings, ensuring these are scheduled in a timely manner, materials for the meetings are prepared and circulated well in advance and that we record, communicate and progress decisions made by the Committee appropriately and effectively;
  • Support the Chair of the CDSC and other Leaders by preparing briefings for formal CDSC meetings and events, bilateral engagements and on governance, membership and policy issues arising;
  • Maintain a high degree of literacy on the wide range of policy and technical issues arising from climate transition data and disclosures at the international level and in key jurisdictions, communicate on these to the wider team and develop and promote solutions;
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships across the institutions and jurisdictions represented on the CDSC and beyond to support the work of the CDSC and the development of strategic partnerships. Stay informed on and communicate key developments or initiatives across the team.
Expectations:
  • Some experience of climate data and disclosure issues gained through 1-3 years’ relevant financial or climate finance policy experience, and a keenness to dig in and learn about this important topic to help identify policy and technical solutions;
  • Some experience of, or a willingness to learn, about governance structures and policy and communication norms for multi-stakeholder committees with public sector participation;
  • Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to research a topic, considering various angles, and to write a clear reasoned briefing on the issue setting out options for policymakers to consider;
  • Self-starting and a demonstrated ability to organise the timely delivery of a piece of work or project, having a clear sense of intermediate steps and timelines to ensure timely delivery;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills such that you can present and discuss policy options, having worked to understand the underlying technical opportunities and constraints;
  • Strong team player, willing to develop strong relationships, and to pitch in and support work across our global effort.
