Description & Requirements
The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is an independent, private-sector-led initiative focused on mobilizing private finance and removing barriers to investment in the global transition. GFANZ supports a diverse set of financial sector firms that recognize the opportunity created by transition, and works to identify financing opportunities and develop solutions to unlock investment.
As a key focus, GFANZ works with local and global partners–including governments, multilateral development banks (MDBs), development finance institutions (DFIs), and multilateral fora (e.g., COP and the G20/G7)--to unlock transition finance in emerging markets and developing economies. Our work is led by financial institutions and focuses on both global and country-specific initiatives. The Capital Mobilization team supports country platforms, partners with MDBs and DFIs to scale tools to mobilize private finance, develops relevant analysis and research, and supports the development of solutions to other barriers to investment.
What’s the role?
To help drive this work, we are looking for a highly motivated and effective individual with deep financial expertise relevant to private capital mobilization, who will play a critical role on the Capital Mobilization team to deliver on our strategic, policy, and technical work. This individual will lead and drive forward individual projects, and partner with other team members on key deliverables and initiatives. This individual will also work collaboratively with individuals across the GFANZ secretariat, including our teams focused on public policy and the GFANZ regional networks.
We will trust you to:
- Manage forums for collaboration and problem solving on private capital mobilization topics between public and private sector financial institutions, including ad-hoc working groups and ongoing collaboration platforms (e.g. our support for the World Bank Private Sector Investment Lab).
- Leverage relevant expertise to develop recommendations and policy proposals on key priorities relevant to mobilizing private climate finance, including on topics in MDB reform and tools/instruments for risk management (including for input to G20/G7 and COP processes).
- Drive research and analysis to develop papers/reports to support policymakers, MDBs/DFIs, and private financial institutions (past examples include reports on catalytic equity finance for energy transition and scaling blended finance, done in partnership with key stakeholders).
- Collaborate with teammates to bring relevant technical expertise in support of key initiatives, including the African Development Bank Private Sector Innovation Lab, Brazil Climate & Ecological Transformation Investment Platform, Nature Investment Lab, Industrial Transition Accelerator, Catalytic Capital Repository, and other programs.
- Support executive-level briefing of GFANZ leadership and principals, and communicate effectively with the wider secretariat to advance common priorities and draw on wider expertise and resources.
Expectations:
- 5-10+ years of relevant professional experience, e.g. in corporate/investment banking focused on emerging markets, development/climate finance, management consulting (in relevant sectors), and/or financial policy, ideally with experience across the public and private sectors.
- Knowledge of the development finance ecosystem, key trends in international finance, and issues related to the climate transition and climate policy in emerging markets and developing economies.
- Excellent ability to synthesize complex sets of information and develop written and visual summaries that engage and inform stakeholders
- Proven experience of working strategically and effectively with public and private sector stakeholders and building relationships across differing levels of leadership.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and visual presentation skills.
- A strong team player, able to work constructively and collaboratively across local and global stakeholders.
