Description & Requirements

The Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC) was established in 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron and United Nations Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions Michael R. Bloomberg. Chaired by Mary Schapiro, the CDSC brings together global policymakers, regulators, and international organizations, informed by data providers and civil society, to improve access to standardized climate data.

Under the South African G20 Presidency, the Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG) identified unlocking the financing potential of carbon markets as one of its three priorities for 2025, with a particular focus on improving carbon credit data standardization. As the Lead Knowledge Partner for this priority, the CDSC oversaw the development of the Common Carbon Credit Data Model (‘the Data Model’). The Data Model provides guidance on standardization of key data fields across the carbon credit lifecycle, from pre-issuance to retirement.

The CDSC Secretariat is now piloting and testing the Data Model with interested jurisdictions and market participants.

What’s the role?
We are looking for an experienced Data Specialist to join our team and support work to pilot the Data Model with carbon market participants such as registries, exchanges, and project developers for example, as well as with policymakers and regulators. The candidate would ideally have some knowledge of carbon markets and the opportunities and challenges relating to data standardization.

We’ll trust you to:
  • Work with interested parties – countries and market participants - piloting the Data Model to map data schemas, pilot workflows, and test data interoperability across their data systems
  • Development of APIs and other resources to support piloting and voluntary adoption
  • Create and maintain processes for updating the Data Model in response to feedback from the pilots and public consultation, balancing data standardization best practices and policymaker needs
  • Outline technical roadmaps to support piloting and collaborate with the CDSC Secretariat to manage timelines, deliverables, and tracking of actions for piloting partners
  • Synthesize technical findings and complex topics to senior stakeholders in an accessible manner

You'll need you to have:
  • A bachelor's degree in a quantitative subject
  • At least 3 years of professional experience with demonstrable expertise in carbon credit markets and/or working with backend data infrastructure
  • Strong analytic skills and proficiency in Excel and coding languages, including SQL or Python
  • Familiarity with relational databases and data modeling tools
  • Experience working with APIs and other applications to exchange data
  • Understanding of Data Model maintenance and governance processes
  • Experience working across multiple teams or projects and delivering to tight deadlines
  • A collaborative approach and exceptional relationship building and communication skills – both written and verbal

We’d love to see:
  • Experience supporting backend data infrastructure, ideally for example with an emissions inventory or carbon credit registry
  • Familiarity with financial markets data and market infrastructure best practices, including setting and implementing global unique identifiers for projects or securities
  • Experience engaging with government institutions and senior stakeholders
  • Ability to read/write in Spanish
