The Emerging Markets group at Bloomberg News is a small but dynamic powerhouse that reports on investment trends, asset prices, and financial, governance and corporate changes in developing nations that can impact markets across the globe. The team is made up of a close-knit, multi-cultural, collaborative and ambitious group of reporters spread out in bureaus from Dubai to Santiago (passing through Istanbul, Johannesburg, Budapest, São Paulo, and many others in between). Reporters are in close and regular contact with investment professionals, asset-management experts, policymakers and local and international stakeholders for interviews and breaking news. The EM team is known for being scoops-oriented, but also for producing engaging longer-form articles, features and timely updates on markets for Bloomberg's terminal and digital audiences, including a weekly short podcast.
Requirements:
The candidate should have deep knowledge and understanding of currency, bond and equity markets, ideally with contacts and sources at banks, money managers and funds that trade and invest in emerging markets. The role requires covering the local markets and investment climate as part of the broader EM asset class, with a primary focus on markets across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The candidate should have a broad understanding of the role that foreign creditors, local investors and multilateral lenders such as the IMF play in helping determine the outlook for tradable securities.
Prior experience covering emerging markets is preferred, along with a strong network of contacts in finance and/or asset management.
You'll need to have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in markets
- Solid news judgment and a strong sense of urgency
- The ability to write quickly, adeptly and concisely under deadline
- The ability to cultivate and develop sources in finance, asset management and related fields
- The ability to work across teams, platforms and geographies
