Description & Requirements

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from intraday coverage to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.

We are looking for a reporter to cover Japan's public and private credit markets. The Tokyo-based position will span coverage of new bond issuance, price moves in the secondary market and regulatory trends for yen-denominated bonds, as well as developments in the rapidly expanding market for private credit-related products.

The role requires a reporter with the versatility to pivot between breaking news and writing enterprise stories about the trends driving credit markets in Japan.

When not on deadline, you'll be cultivating market sources, developing story ideas and collaborating with teammates to help Bloomberg News shine a light on these key markets for investors. With the Bank of Japan in the midst of a generational shift to higher interest rates, market volatility is high, providing a wealth of opportunities to write impactful stories.

You are a self-starter who thrives on developing sources to break news and report on market trends, making full use of data and interviews. In particular, in the new field of private credit coverage, you'll need solid communication skills, enjoy innovation and be up for the challenge of forging a new reporting path.

We'll trust you to:
  • Proactively cultivate, develop and tap a broad network of market players for insights and scoops
  • Deliver concise stories to explain market flows and analyze trends
  • Generate and craft stories that capture "what's happening and why" and "what it means" - against the backdrop of local and global trends
  • Utilize and learn Bloomberg data and analytics to tell visually appealing stories
  • Maintain a culture of urgency, innovation and strong news judgement
  • Demonstrate ability to break down silos and communicate across global news room and teams, groups, platforms and regions

You'll need to have:
  • At least 3 years of experience in financial journalism or comparable financial industry experience
  • Ideally experience covering public or private markets
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Business proficiency in both English and Japanese
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
  • A strong work ethic and solid organizational skills with a collaborative team spirit, the drive to innovation
