Bloomberg Opinion, the commentary arm of Bloomberg News, is seeking an experienced, insightful and authoritative columnist to bring a strong voice, sophisticated writing and fresh, bold perspectives to our coverage of markets in India and the Gulf states.

You will be based in India, preferably in Mumbai, and join an international team that has established an influential and visible presence in the APAC region, EMEA and the Americas. While your focus will be regional, your audience will be global, and we will count on you to deliver sharp, engaging commentary twice a week on pivotal market and financial trends.
In India, that will mean you are a numerate observer comfortable probing an array of assets and market barometers including currency, bonds and stocks as well as IPOs and private wealth. The equity market is the fourth biggest globally, surpassing Hong Kong’s last year, driven by strong institutional investment, digitization of trading platforms and a rapid democratization of investing. You will be assessing how effectively and strategically money is deployed across key business sectors such as finance and banking, information technology, retail, health care, pharmaceuticals, telecoms and digital services. Tracking the flow foreign capital in and out of India, the expanding credit cycle, domestic institutional investors and the growth in ETFs, you will interpret market movements and identify emerging themes in a clear and compelling narrative.
You will also write about the increasingly pivotal role that Middle East money -- via the region's giant sovereign wealth funds -- plays in global finance, including much of the backing for the private markets boom. With strategically important tech firms such as OpenAI looking to raise tens of billions of dollars in the Gulf, and the Saudis and Qataris promising to spend trillions in the US, we're looking for someone who can expertly follow the flow of capital in and out of the region and examine the deeper implications. And as Dubai and Abu Dhabi challenge London as the preferred choice for deregulated, tax-light finance, our columnist will be able to scrutinize those developments vividly.
You'll be supported by skilled, experienced editors and will have the opportunity to collaborate with columnists in the region as well as in London, New York and other major financial centers. Your team will include data visualists and videographers who will partner with you to deliver commentary in innovative, multimedia formats beyond traditional text-based formats. You will also regularly appear on television, radio, podcasts and social media platforms.
We’ll trust you to:
- Offer commentary tied to breaking news as well as deeper dives into specific issues
- Routinely use data to explain and illustrate important market and economic trends
- Speculate about future developments, including unfolding trends, across Indian and Gulf markets
- Cut through the noise to help readers focus on and understand the meaning behind the most important news
You'll need to have:
- At least 5 years of journalism experience covering regional markets, economies and business
- Experience working in a real-time news environment
- Top-drawer writing abilities that don’t require your editors to routinely renovate your pieces and a dedicated, error-free respect for detail and the fact pattern
- A willingness to take a distinctive but responsible stand and a desire to make every column a must-read for a discerning and exacting audience
- Experience collaborating with regional teams to accomplish goals
- Fluency in both spoken and written English
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
