Bloomberg Index Services Limited (BISL) is a leading provider of benchmarks. Bloomberg indices are used as the basis of investment products and for benchmarking portfolio performance. The Bloomberg Terminal and Bloomberg media enable the global investment community to interact with Bloomberg indices.
What’s the Role?
You'll be joining a fast growing and highly motivated index product team that sits within our Enterprise Data division. Our diverse portfolio of products consists of various indices and benchmarks across all asset classes. You will be part of a team that focuses on developing and deepening our index presence on the Bloomberg Terminal. To support this business, you will help the team build and enhance index functions such as our newly developed, interactive, custom index builder and integrate the indices into other parts of the Terminal. You will work directly with Terminal clients and index users to understand their needs and build the products to support their workflows leveraging new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing to bring index design and testing to a wider audience on the Bloomberg Terminal. You would work closely with Sales, Research, Production, Marketing, PR teams, and participate in client meetings globally. You will collaborate with teams across core terminal, enterprise product, enterprise solutions, global data, and technology to build, maintain and grow our business.
As a Product Manager, you will be expected to have deep knowledge of the index industry, the asset management industry, and index construction. You’ll have a good understanding of benchmarks across asset classes and understand the many ways in which they are used.
You’ll be expected to influence product vision and then execute on that vision. Being comfortable working with large data sets and being able to extract meaningful intelligence to drive innovation and product direction is essential. You’ll also have great interpersonal skills and be someone with the ability to approach challenges with creativity and enthusiasm; someone who has the courage to take positions advocating change and then deliver. This is a role with very high visibility within the organization and the investment community.
We’ll trust you to:
- Oversee the client experience using our indices on the Bloomberg Terminal
- Support our index business across ideation, design, and execution
- Develop and implement strategies to integrate our indices into client workflows and grow our index user base
- Contribute meaningfully to the analysis, evaluation, and product vision of the index product offering
- Assess client needs and translate them into index-based solutions
- Communicate product vision and build consensus among senior leadership team
- Play a key role in the governance and evolution of our global multi-asset class index offering
- Become an expert in the Bloomberg index methodologies
You’ll need to have:
- 7+ years of Product Management experience*
- BA/BS or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of index data and the day-to-day needs of index users across various asset classes including fixed income
- Demonstrated ability to develop thorough, integrated, commercially sound product plans
- Proven track record in working independently to develop and grow financial data businesses
- Understanding of investment process, portfolio theory, and financial markets
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of building enthusiastic support for new ideas
- Experience leading a project team and interest to grow and lead a product team in the medium term
We’d love to see:
- Programming experience in Python or R
- A degree within finance, engineering, computer science, math, or statistics
