Description & Requirements

The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is an independent, private-sector-led initiative focused on mobilizing private finance and removing barriers to investment in the global transition. GFANZ supports a diverse set of financial sector firms that recognize the opportunity created by transition, and works to identify financing opportunities and develop solutions to unlock investment, particularly in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs).

GFANZ Regional Networks, spanning Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America & the Caribbean, were established to embed regional perspectives and expertise in the development of the global strategy and support the delivery of global workstreams in ways that align with regional realities. The networks are a vital source of intelligence, influence, and impact for GFANZ globally.

What’s the role?

We are looking for an experienced and diplomatic leader with strong experience in finance to oversee GFANZ’s Regional Networks and Global Strategy. The role reports to the Managing Director and involves the management of three Regional Networks and Directors (Africa, APAC, and LAC) and their respective teams. The role sits at the intersection of global strategy and regional delivery. It requires co-creating the overarching strategic direction and workplan for each region, while empowering and supporting expert Directors and their teams to implement and deliver high-impact programmes tailored to their regional contexts. The role will involve close collaboration with the broader GFANZ Secretariat, including technical, policy, and communications teams.
The successful candidate will need to combine strategic vision and political judgment with strong project and people management skills. They will be responsible for maintaining a culture of collaboration and outstanding execution. They will need to manage senior external and internal stakeholders deftly whilst delivering analytical and technical projects to a high standard.

We will trust you to:

 ● Lead and Manage Regional Teams: Provide strategic leadership and management oversight to Regional and Country Directors, supporting their effectiveness, and delivery of high-quality programmes. Oversee the development and execution of regional strategies, ensuring they are ambitious, achievable and clearly aligned to GFANZ's global mission and priorities.
 ● Integrate Global & Regional Strategy: Serve as the primary architect for aligning regional activities with the GFANZ Global Workplan and milestones. Work with the GFANZ leadership to identify where the regional networks can create the greatest strategic value.
 ● Maintain Internal Coordination: Facilitate effective two-way information flows between the regional networks and global teams, including surfacing relevant regional developments, insights and stakeholder signals for global awareness. Oversee regional inputs to key global deliverables, including reports, engagement strategies, and materials for senior GFANZ leadership.
 ● Provide Technical Delivery: Manage and implement technical projects, including providing direct contributions and delivery capacity - not just management capacity.
 ● Manage Stakeholders Diplomatically: Build and maintain senior relationships with key financial institutions, government counterparts, MDBs, DFIs, and other strategic partners across APAC, LAC and Africa. Represent GFANZ at senior regional and international fora, supporting quality engagements with stakeholders across the three regions. Identify strategic opportunities for GFANZ to deepen its regional presence and impact, including through partnerships, convening, and thought leadership

You will need to have:
 ● Strong experience in the financial sector or the official sector working on mobilizing finance
 ● Deep familiarity with the financial and policy landscape across EMDEs, including the blended finance and private capital mobilization agendas
 ● Demonstrated experience managing geographically dispersed teams or multi-regional programmes
 ● Strong political judgement and the ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments with credibility and sensitivity
 ● Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders across the private and public sectors.
 ● Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing briefings and strategic materials for senior leaders.
 ● A highly collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams, functions and subject areas
 ● Experience managing and developing high-performing teams of varying sizes

We’d love to see:
 ● A low-ego team player who is not afraid to get their hands dirty
 ● Implementation Experience: A background in successfully launching "on-the-ground" financial initiatives or country-led platforms
 ● Direct experience working within or alongside a comparable regional financial or climate initiative
 ● A strong existing network across financial institutions, policymakers, MDBs and DFIs
 ● Experience working within a government ministry, multilateral institution or development finance institution
 ● Experience working in or alongside private financial institutions, or a strong interest in developing this experience

If indicated, please note that years of experience are a guide; we will consider applications from all candidates who can demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.
