Description & Requirements

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and delivering analysis of financial markets and big business, from real-time coverage to deeply reported features. We are known for speed, accuracy and journalism that investors can use.

We're seeking an ambitious reporter to strengthen our coverage from Bangkok, telling Thailand's story to a global audience with clarity, urgency and impact.

Thailand is Southeast Asia's second-largest economy and a critical node in global supply chains, tourism and automotive manufacturing. It is a major exporter of cars, electronics and agricultural products, and a magnet for foreign direct investment as companies diversify production across the region. The country's powerful conglomerates dominate sectors from energy and telecoms to retail and banking. At the same time, politics remain fluid and Thailand's relationship along the border with Cambodia tense. It's also a place where business and politics are tightly intertwined, offering constant opportunities for smart, competitive reporting.

Sourcing will be central to your success. We're looking for a reporter who has already shown the ability to build meaningful contacts and turn them into stories, and who is hungry to deepen that network. You will be expected to cultivate sources across government, regulators, companies and the financial community, and use those relationships to break news and deliver exclusive angles.

At the same time, we want someone who can think creatively about Thailand -- spotting stories that are distinctive, colorful or unexpected, and explaining them in a way that resonates with a global readership. That could mean capturing how political shifts affect investors, highlighting the forces reshaping tourism and consumer behavior in an economy weighed down by persistently high household debt, or examining the long-term implications of Thailand's rapidly aging population -- one of the fastest demographic shifts in Southeast Asia. It could also mean identifying emerging industries and corporate power struggles before they become obvious. The ability to connect local developments to global markets is essential.

Handling breaking news is also an important part of this role and you're expected to be able to scan a steady flow of information, decide swiftly on market-moving news and deliver flash headlines and stories as quickly as possible on anything that could move the price of assets of interest to Bloomberg Terminal clients, be it currencies, stocks, bonds or commodities.

This role is suited to a reporter roughly five to eight years into their career who is ready to step up. You should be comfortable operating independently, pitching and executing upon your own ideas and handling breaking news under deadline pressure, while continuing to grow your judgment and range. You will contribute to everything from fast-moving headlines to analytical follow-ups and enterprise stories.

Bloomberg is a deeply collaborative newsroom. We value reporters who share information freely, coordinate closely with colleagues across Asia and globally, and contribute to team coverage beyond their immediate patch. Flexibility and a strong sense of collective purpose are essential.

An interest in multimedia storytelling, including TV appearances, radio, video or audio, will be an advantage as our formats continue to evolve.

We’ll trust you to:
  • Break news through proactive sourcing and persistent reporting
  • Build and expand a network across markets, politics, finance and business
  • Deliver fast, accurate copy under pressure
  • Pitch original enterprise ideas and execute them effectively
  • Write clearly and authoritatively for a global audience
  • Collaborate across teams and time zones
  • Use data, documents and interviews to produce distinctive reporting
  • Approach coverage with curiosity, competitiveness and sound judgment

You’ll need to have:
  • At least 5 years of reporting experience, ideally covering business, finance or politics
  • Evidence of building sources and delivering exclusive or agenda-setting stories
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills; fluency in Thai is a must
  • Strong news instincts and a willingness to ask difficult questions
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-moving, high-expectation newsroom
  • A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organisation
