Bloomberg runs on data. As the Data Management & Analytics team within Engineering, we support Bloomberg’s needs around managing data efficiently with a vision to ensure that the Right Data is identified and available in the Right Place to the Right People in the Right Form and at the Right Time. We have embarked on a journey to understand data needs across the organization to help business operations run efficiently, make improved decisions and adhere to regulatory requirements.

The Data Management team solves new and upcoming problems in the space of data and risk management building robust and scalable products around data catalog, data classification, data lineage, data quality, reference, and master data management across the organization.

Due to the continuous growth and a need to support business globally, we are looking for a Team Lead to build and grow our Data Management team in London. This team will work closely with business partners and engineering teams globally. We'll trust you to:


  • Lead and develop a group of both junior and senior engineers, growing them along their career path in order to achieve company and career goals
  • Brainstorm, develop, communicate and promote vision, strategy and roadmap for all data management and compliance products across Bloomberg
  • Be a hands-on technical leader and work side-by-side with your team, constantly empowering them to become more effective
  • Foster a culture of high quality and strong software development practices in the team 
  • Shape our infrastructure for years to come as we transition to better distributed high-performance architectures using vendor tools and open source technologies
  • Cultivate strong relationships with Business and Engineering stakeholders
  • Build a high performing, self organizing team culture with trust and integrity as the core pillars
  • Bring the latest and greatest innovation and technology stack features from the open source community to our data products including adopting and implementing AI/ML practices
  • Set goals, OKRs, provide tailored coaching and mentoring to ensure individual and teams performance is on track to meet departmental goals across multiple metric categories such as productivity and quality
  • Ability to strategically think forward, identify and assess risks and opportunities in a timely manner


You’ll need to have:


  • Experience in engineering leadership, managing and coaching global teams and influencing technology strategy
  • Hands-on software development experience in Python and any other programming language developing applications based on microservices architecture
  • Experience driving strategies, managing sophisticated projects, and leadership ability in change management or influencing others
  • Great interpersonal skills, allowing you to build relationships and clearly communicate business needs and to advocate on behalf of your team
  • Creative and flexible approach to problem solving, aided by strong data analysis skills
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience.


We’d love to see:


  • Experience building relationships with vendors and implementing 3rd party applications
  • Previous hands-on work with a microservice architectural style building large distributed systems or high volume / low latency products
  • Familiarity with third party open source technologies such as Kafka, Cassandra, Redis
  • Familiarity with web standards and browser related technologies.
  • Experience with scheduling tools (Airflow, Argo etc.)
