The Senior Web Engineer will lead the development of cutting-edge audio and video features for our digital news platform. This includes creating interactive and personalized video experiences, implementing transcriptions and translations, and designing systems that seamlessly interconnect text, audio, and video content. The role focuses on developing robust audio and video players, optimizing content delivery, and creating bite-sized video clips tailored to user preferences. The goal is to shape the future of news consumption through immersive, personalized video experiences that impact millions of users globally.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in web technologies, video streaming protocols, and modern frameworks such as NextJS, Node.js, React, and GraphQL. Experience with WebRTC, adaptive bitrate streaming, and cloud-based video hosting is a plus. The role involves working with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and optimizing platform efficiency through edge processing and multi-CDN setups. The engineer will contribute to a powerful React component library, ranging from simple UI elements to complex media players.
This role requires strong collaboration with diverse teams across Product, Design, Engineering, and Editorial departments. Effective communication and management skills are important for coordinating with various stakeholders, understanding their needs, and translating them into technical solutions. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities, and drive projects forward while building cross-team relationships is key for success in this position.

You'll need to have:
4+ years of expertise in Javascript/TypeScript and modern web development frameworks, particularly React.
Proven track record of building scalable, high-performance web applications.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
